Travel Health Insurance
What is Travel Health Insurance?
Travel health insurance can reduce the financial risk of unforeseen accidents or medical emergencies while abroad.
Travel health insurance or otherwise known as travel medical insurance is a good thing to have anytime you visit another country. It’s just like regular health insurance, but it is
intended to cover you in the specific country in which you will be spending some of your time. There are a number of travel medical insurance companies that offer this type of coverage.
When traveling domestically and you have a health insurance policy, you will have some level of coverage to visit any doctor in the event you become ill or suffer an injury. If you participate in a network, chances are you will be seeing an out-of-network doctor and costs will be higher, but none-the-less some of the costs will be covered with your insurance plan.
International travelers need to be aware of how their health insurance plan provides once in another country. Typically your health insurance coverage will not apply when you travel abroad. This is where the need for a travel health
insurance or travel medical coverage policy should be considered.
One should consider the following when evaluating travel coverage:
· Hospital room and board - reimbursement for any expenses associated with a hospital stay.
· Medical expenses - doctor’s fees, including office visits and procedures.
· Emergency medical treatments.
· Emergency medical evacuation - in the event that you should need to be transported due to a serious illness or injury.
· Accidental death and dismemberment - if you should become disabled during your trip,
this coverage provides payment to you; if you pass away, a beneficiary or your estate receives payment.
