Sports Injuries
Most common sports injuries that occur
Sports injuries can often times be prevented. Many injuries occur simply due to accidents, improper gear, poor training, and lack of preparation. Not being in shape can often times cause injury. Warming
up or stretching prior to engaging in any form of exercise or sport is a must.
The most common sports injuries are:
- Sprains and strains
- Knee injuries
- Swollen muscles
- Achilles tendon injuries
- Pain along the shin bone
- Fractures
- Dislocations
If you get hurt, stop playing. Continuing to play or exercise can cause more harm.
Treatment often begins with the RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression and Elevation) method to relieve pain, reduce swelling and
speed healing.
There are many orthopedic supports and braces available over the counter to provide relief for certain injuries.
Be sure to ask you pharmacist or family physician to provide you with advice as to what support is best suited for
your particular injury.
Safety apparel and gear are uniquely designed for specific sports. Helmets, safety vests, etc are NOT all equal. If you are new at this, make sure you
understand that the specific safety equipment you are purchasing is for the sport YOU are going to play!
