What to do while camping
Camping Activities
Hiking Trails
One thing many camping grounds have are designated hiking trails. These hiking trails can often be marked according to the level of difficulty. The hiking trails can be marked by
signs that indicate if they are moderate hiking paths or strenuous. If you are a
first time hiker obviously starting out with a strenuous hiking trail is not a good idea! Hiking trails that are relatively level will be marked as an easy hiking trail.
What else can you do other than hiking while camping?
You can just take walks through what many campsites have designated as Nature Trails. Walking with a friend on a beautiful day through a nature trail is a calming and great way to spend time together.
What else is there to do while camping?
Many campsites offer locations for swimming, boating, or fishing. During the summer months getting away from the city and enjoying
swimming or fishing at a campground is a great escape from the summer heat.
Bike Riding
Another great camping activity is to go biking. Once again depending on the campground visited; many have trails designated as Multi Use Trails (M.U.T.)
which means both bikers and hikers share the trail. Mountain biking can be a physically challenging activity so if you are not up to it look for road bike trails that offer paved surfaces.
Horseback Riding - Equestrian Camping
Another favorite activity is horseback riding. For those who love horses there are horseback camps specifically for beginners or experienced riders.
Some allow you to bring your own horse and some provide the horses and horseback training programs. Some equestrian campsites include paddock or stable facilities and restroom with showers. Horseback riding may be open year around at some camp sites depending on the terrain. Campers should call ahead for exact trail status and the availability of equestrian facilities.
Canoeing and Kayaking
Another popular activity for campers is to go canoeing or kayaking. For kayak camping you will have to learn how to pack and outfit yourself.
If you're looking for a kayak camping tour there are many campgrounds that provide; kayak rentals, guided sea kayaking tours,
water sport instruction, stand up paddle boards, surf kayaks, kayak camping
areas, kayak fishing and more.
