Going camping for the first time is an exciting adventure. Exploring nature and enjoying the fresh air will take the stress out of your life. Before setting off on your first trip – you will need to make sure you have the camping gear you need. Once you have determined when and where you will be camping, you can begin to create a list of camping supplies.

A first time camper may have no idea what to expect when taking that first trip. If you will be staying in a campground you will have access to items you might have forgotten, if you are hiking into the deep woods or up a mountain, you will need to make sure you are a little more prepared. The most important items will be your tents and sleeping bags. No matter what the weather, you will feel better sleeping in a tent. It may seem romantic to sleep under the starry sky, but you may not get any rest at all if you are worried about the animals lurking in the woods or if a sudden rain shower springs up. If you are planning to take the family camping this is even more important. The kids may not like the idea of sleeping out in the open and snuggling up in a warm sleeping bag will make the night much more peaceful.

People who are new to camping may not realize how much stuff they will need to take on the trip. You will want to pack enough food and drinks for each person in the family. The first time going camping should not be used to try and make gourmet food dishes on the camp fire. Go for something simple like hot dogs that can be cooked on a stick and then use the sticks again to roast marshmallows. For breakfast you may want to keep it easy and bring breakfast bars or pop tarts. The kids will be happy with just about anything and you will be happy for the ease of preparation and clean up.

If you are wondering about things to do when camping you will be amazed by what nature has to offer. Make sure to bring backpacks so you can go hiking and look for animals or plants. If you are camping close to a river or stream it is fun to walk along the waters edge and take in the beauty of the scenery. Of course you will need to think about safety also. Hopefully you will have cell phone service in the event of an emergency and you should make sure you pack a first aid kit for those inevitable injuries. If you are hiking without the help of a well worn trail – make sure you have a map or mark your path with something besides bread crumbs. You do not want to worry about getting lost while chasing that wild deer and then be forced to call for help.

Camping is a great way to spend quality time with yourself, your significant other, or the entire family. There is nothing better than getting away from technology and communing with nature and letting the stress of the world fade away. You may be amazed by how well your children are able to find things to do away from the television, computer and video games. They will probably enjoy exploring the woods and discovering new treasures. Just make sure the first time you go camping you make a list with the gear you will need. After the first time you will be addicted to the outdoors and look forward to each and every camping adventure.
